Your Zebra ZT610 is capable of printing both Direct Thermal and Thermal Transfer.  Direct Thermal Labels do not require the use of a ribbon while Thermal Transfer Labels do require a ribbon.

If you would like to print Thermal Transfer with your ZT610 Printer, then you will need to use a ribbon.  

The most common ribbon formulations are Wax, Wax/Resin, and Resin.

•  Wax Ribbons are ideal for paper labels

•  Wax/Resin Ribbons offer a bit more durability and are ideal for paper labels and Polypropylene (BOPP) Labels

•  Resin Ribbons are very durable and ideal for Polyester Labels
